So far 2022 is marked by a wave of anti-LGBTQ legislative attacks across the nation. However, we are seeing a particular emphasis of these bills and policies in the South such as HB 755 in NC and SB 44 in Louisiana among others. That is why we are launching a 10-person Latinx LGBTQ Southern media and advocacy cohort.
Our goal is to equip community members interested in joining the advocacy arena with skills and resources to shape and share their own personal stories, influence and combat harmful media narratives, and become engaged in local and statewide advocacy efforts to improve the lives and wellbeing of LGBTQ Latinx communities.
Cohort members will participate in 3 virtual storytelling coaching sessions: Storytelling for Advocacy, Storytelling in News Media, and Digital Storytelling.
At these sessions, community experts will cover topics like how to book meetings with legislators, how to craft your own story and pitch it to news outlets, and how to leverage digital platforms for storytelling and advocacy. By the end of these coaching sessions participants will be able to create media tools to aid in advocacy efforts in their communities. Compensation will be provided to cohort members who attend all 3 sessions and develop resources with the aid of the cohort staff. Deadline to apply is July 1st, 2022.
We are currently accepting applications for this cohort. To be considered, individuals must meet the following requirements:
